I love ghyll scrambling and have experienced it in many destinations but the Lake District is still my favourite place to enjoy this exhilarating activity. If you’ve never heard of ghyll scrambling, a ghyll is a fast flowing watercourse which you can explore via a series of natural slides, climbs, jumps and dives. Kids absolutely love it!.
My whole family enjoy ghyll scrambling as it is both challenging and thrilling.
Whenever I go ghyll scrambling I always try to be the first to find the natural rock chutes to slide down whilst my sister prefers to jump into the deep pools of water and traverse across the rock faces.
Let’s be honest the Lake District is not renowned for its year round sunshine, so I believe the best way to enjoy your time in the Lakes is to embrace the weather. What better way to do this than climbing up waterfalls and crawling through secret tunnels in the ghylls; you’re guaranteed to get soaked but that’s half of the fun.
