The frozen archipelago is an excellent location for a bit of ice fishing and thanks to the natural backdrop of lakes, inlets and forests, there are also opportunities to spot local animals like wandering moose and reindeer. Unique activities in unique locations
Ever wanted to travel on a hovercraft? You can at Brändön Lodge! Each of our holidays there either includes, or offers you the chance to add-on a guided hovercraft tour of the Luleå Archipelago, with a seasoned pilot at the helm. You’ll get a closer look at the Arctic fauna and flora as you head across the sea ice to a remote village. On the mainland, fans of exploring will definitely enjoy the winter skills sessions. Led by an expert, you make a snowshoe trip into the local forests, pick out hoof prints, learn how to build a fire, and prepare hot drinks – all around a campfire. For more animal experiences, you can go on wild moose safaris and head to a reindeer farm.

Additional entertainment comes with dogsledding, which is either included, or available as an add-on to every one of our Swedish trips. As far as family locations go, Brändön is one of the best. The lodge and its winter cottages are like homes away from home, allowing for quality time together. You don’t have to voyage out of your way to get to activities, as everything starts close by. Touring the Luleå Archipelago by hovercraft makes everyone feel like explorers in a sci-fi film, and the wildlife-spotting is particularly good fun.
The Swedish wonderland of lakes is rather special, and ice-fishing on them is a real treat. This is often a completely new experience for families, but don’t be daunted!
Our local guides can do this with their eyes closed and will walk you through the different techniques. Even if you don’t make a catch, having the chance to participate in this traditional Nordic pursuit is something you will always remember.
