A note on flights: whilst flights are not included in the holiday price, our team will happily provide a quote and arrange them for you. Simply ask one of our Travel Experts for details of the available options for you
*Half board meal upgrade is mandatory if you are travelling between 13th December and 6th January, and will be included in the price of your holiday
A selection of winter activities can be added to your trip at an additional cost. Once you have chosen when you want to travel and for how long you can select as many or as few activities as you wish from the extensive range on the “Activities” tab and tailor your trip as required. All activities are individually priced and our Travel Experts can assist you with your selection and will then provide a personalised itinerary quotation for you.
Combining welcoming and modern accommodation with a delightful variety of activities and easy access to the nearby wildlife park, Ranua has become a firm family favourite amongst our guests. Kids and adults alike will marvel at the beautiful snowy scenery whilst they enjoy all the fun excursions the winter season brings!
This tailor-made option offers you great flexibility over your choice of winter snow holiday, allowing you to be as active or as relaxed as you wish with your family – take to the snow via husky sled, meet the local wildlife, strap on a pair of snowshoes or cross-country ski along the trails. You can even fit in a visit to see Father Christmas!
You can also visit the nearby wildlife park with its array of animals including moose, Arctic fox, lynx, elk, deer and polar bears allowing your children a chance to see these amazing animals up close.
Subject to flight and accommodation availability you can usually travel at any time throughout the winter season (please note that flight options can be limited over Christmas and New Year). We would advise a minimum of three nights to really make the most of your time here. Simply decide when you want to travel and for how long, then match your stay to the activities listed in the ‘Personalise’ tab. Please note that all accommodation and activities are subject to availability at the time of booking.
Read moreTransfers, breakfasts* (half and full board options available) and cold-weather clothing for the duration of your stay are included in your trip. We've opted to include breakfast only* to give you the freedom to spend mealtimes however you prefer. Your wonderfully equipped villa kitchens are perfect for shared family meals. There is a nearby supermarket, accessible by taxi which can be prebooked or arranged locally, to stock up on supplies for meals in. For those days you’d prefer to eat out, Ranua Resort has its own buffet restaurant (with a la carte options too) on site. Alternatively, the wildlife park is home to a small kota selling light meals and hot drinks, plus Bubo Bistro so there are plenty of options during your time in Ranua.
*Half board meal upgrade is mandatory if you are travelling between 13th December and 6th January, and will be included in the price of your holiday. From December through to 10th January, we will not be offering a full board upgrade to include lunch, but guests can arrange and pay for this locally. In our experience, the restaurant can become busy during the festive lunchtimes, with outside visitors to the park.
Please note: activity schedules are subject to change. Duration of activity includes transfer times and breaks, and all distances are approximate. Some activities require a minimum number of participants to operate and are subject to availability.
Husky safaris: all decisions are made on the day of the safari by the lead guide as to any guest’s suitability to drive their own sledge. As a general rule, those aged 15 and over are normally able to drive their own team of huskies but the guide’s decision on the day will be final. On certain safaris, children under the age of 15 will either travel in a sledge driven by the guide or an accompanying adult.
Snowmobile safaris: the driver of a snowmobile must be 18 years old and hold a valid driving licence. Children will travel in a sled pulled by the guide’s snowmobile on selected safaris where this is offered, older children may be able to travel as pillion on the snowmobile but this is at the discretion of the guide.
Single snowmobiles: all snowmobile safaris are based on two people sharing. If this is not possible in your party then you will be paired with someone else taking part in the activity. If you wish to guarantee your own snowmobile you must pay the single supplement - please ask our Travel Experts for a quotation.
Located around 4km from the small town centre, Ranua Holiday Village is an ideal family base, boasting close proximity to the Ranua Wildlife Park which guests have unlimited access to throughout their stay.
The holiday village offers families modern comfortable apartments which are very well equipped.

On the first floor, there is a second twin bedroom as well as an open loft area with two smaller extra beds (suitable for children) as well as a shower and toilet. All linen is of course provided.

These beautiful glass igloos add a very special accommodation experience to any stay at Ranua. There are 20 igloos in total (10 twin igloos and 10 family/lakeside igloos) which are located around 8km from Ranua Wildlife Park. Twin igloos
The igloos include a twin bed and have a small kitchenette, a bathroom with private sauna (this is Finland after all!) and a limited lake view. Guests will normally be transferred to the igloos ahead of their evening meal at the Igloo Village Restaurant and are then picked up the following morning in time for breakfast back at the main restaurant in Ranua. Whilst there is no reception building at the igloo camp, all guests receive a contact number in case of any questions or issues.
Family/lakeside igloos
These igloos have the same facilities as the twin igloos but have a double bed and space for two small extra beds for children (4-14 years old) and a lake view. Please note that the maximum occupancy is 2 adults and 2 children (4-14 years old).
Please note, that the example price listed is based on guests spending the final night of their holiday in an igloo, and checking out of their apartment accommodation. If guests wish to spend any other night during their stay in a glass igloo, they must retain their apartment accommodation. Our Travel Experts will happily provide you with a quotation.
Prices are based on 2 adults (15 and over) and 2 children (3-14) sharing a superior villa.

Minimum numbers required for this holiday to run vary from 4 to 8 people (depending on departure date). Maximum 42 people (approximately). Please speak to our Travel Experts for further information.
We always try to provide an approximation of the group size you can expect to be with for the duration of each of our holidays. It may be that you are joined by others for parts of your holiday (such as transfers and particular activities) but the above number reflects those you can normally expect to be with from beginning to end. If group size is something which is particularly important to you, please speak to our Travel Experts and they can suggest the best holidays for you.
Tailor-made holiday group sizes will vary for all activities as will the group size for any additional activities you book.
Some of our holidays require a minimum number of participants to operate (as listed in the ‘Group Size’ section). If your holiday departure has not yet reached the minimum number, you will be told at the time of booking. In the unlikely event that your chosen date is not guaranteed by nine weeks before your scheduled departure date, we will contact you to discuss the available options as per our booking conditions.
The minimum age for this holiday can be found in the ‘Key Facts’ section of the holiday overview.
Younger family members may be able to participate but may not be able to take part in all activities. Please contact one of our Travel Experts if you have any questions.
The order of activities listed in this agenda is provided for guidance only, your final and detailed itinerary will be provided either with your final travel documents (which are uploaded into your online account around a week prior to departure) or upon arrival.
We want our holidays to be accessible as they can be and will do our best to accommodate any special requests and requirements where possible. We have a wide range of holidays and destinations and so our travel experts will help find the best holiday for you.
In order to give us the best possible chance to do this we ask that if you or any member of your party has any medical condition or disability which may affect your holiday or has any special requirements, that you tell us at the time of enquiry or booking. You must also promptly advise us if any medical condition or disability which may affect your holiday develops after your booking has been confirmed. You may need to provide a doctor’s note and proof of insurance in some cases as the health and safety of our clients is absolutely paramount.
In providing this information you are allowing us to work with our expert local partners to ensure that your whole party can enjoy the holiday. By letting us know in advance we can discreetly work with you to adapt any part of the holiday which may potentially be challenging. Being able to prepare for this in advance makes an incredible difference to what we can offer and minimises any impact on your party and the rest of the group.
Unfortunately, if you choose not to share this information with us in advance then it may limit some or all of the itinerary you have booked, and we cannot be held accountable for any additional costs or missed activities resulting from this.
It is vitally important that you advise us prior to departure of any medical or dietary condition relating to any member of your party so that we may notify our local staff before you arrive. We recommend only drinking bottled water from bottles with unbroken seals and be vigilant about the use of ice in drinks and ice cream.
Insurance is not included in your holiday, but it is a pre-requisite to travelling with us. You will need to ensure that you have cover for all the activities that you will be participating in during your holiday.
It is extremely important that you take out a suitable travel insurance policy at the time of booking. Plans do sometimes change, and you will need this policy should you need to cancel your holiday.
If you are struggling to find a suitable policy then details of our preferred provider, who will cover you for all the activities we offer, can be found on our website by clicking here. Please note that this policy is available to EU residents under the age of 75 only.
Our clients’ safety is at the centre of everything we do, and our operations team continually assesses and monitors the destinations we feature. We carry out thorough risk assessments and work closely with all of our suppliers to continually follow best practice. For up to date travel advice the UK government offers its Travel Aware website as well as the advice detailed below.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office Advice
We receive all updates from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) with regards to travel advice and we always ensure that we follow this advice in our operations. The FCO issues travel advisories for countries based on a very wide range of factors. They may provide notification about things as simple as a football match and crowds, or they may go so far as to advise against all travel to a region. We ask all our clients to refer to the relevant Travel Advice by Country for the destinations they are visiting in order to make an informed decision on the safety of the destination based on the details provided. It also provides vital information regarding entry requirements, embassy information, local laws and customs as well as specific safety and health. Guests should take responsibility for keeping themselves up to date with this advice. Please also ensure that, if you are transiting through another country, you have read the advice and meet the entry requirements for that destination too.
The FCO travel advice is applicable to British Passport Holders. Most governments will issue their own travel advice for a region and, if you are not a UK resident then you can find some helpful links below:
Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/
New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade http://www.safetravel.govt.nz/
Canadian Consular Affairs Bureau http://voyage.gc.ca/
The U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs http://travel.state.gov/content/travel/english.html
If the FCO deems that there is an unacceptable level of risk for UK citizens then, together with the government, they may issue an advisory against all travel to a region or country. If such an advisory is published, then we will act accordingly, and this may require the cancellation, curtailment or amendment of a holiday itinerary. These decisions are made on the basis of ensuring our clients’ safety and will affect all clients on the holiday, regardless of their nationality.
If one of our local experts suggests an amendment due to a situation which develops locally then we may also take the decision to amend an itinerary appropriately.
If we have to cancel your holiday prior to departure you will be offered the option of an alternative trip (where any price difference will either be refunded to or covered by you) or a full refund of the monies paid.
If we have to curtail a holiday, then you will be refunded for any costs for the elements we have been unable to deliver, where we have been able to secure a refund from our suppliers. If we must reroute a holiday, then any basis for refund is determined on a case by case basis and dependent on whether the central holiday experience was provided or not.
Additional activities can be booked locally in almost all our destinations. However, as per our booking conditions, we cannot be held responsible for any injury or loss incurred through participation in activities which are booked at your destination outside of our holiday itinerary (see our ‘Terms and Conditions’ for further details).
When arranging any such activity please always ensure that safety is your primary concern.
In some of our destinations, you can borrow or hire equipment for use in your free time. You do so entirely at your own risk. You must ensure that you are correctly prepared, have the necessary equipment and knowledge (maps, etc.) and ensure that where applicable, you follow marked routes. We recommend discussing your plans with the local teams who will be able to advise on the most suitable options for you.
Always let the reception/guide know where you are planning to go and take a torch and mobile phone (with the hotel/guide’s phone number stored). It is also a good idea to leave your contact number and the time you expect to return to the hotel should the hotel need to contact you.
On your documentation, we will confirm your flight schedule. Sometimes the flight number, routing and timings might change prior to your departure. If the change is classed as a significant change then we will contact you to discuss this. Please see our booking conditions for details.
Flight schedule changes can impact on your pre and post-holiday travel arrangements if these have been booked separately to your holiday. We strongly recommend that you do not book transport (such as trains or transfers), car parking or non-connecting flights to the departure point for your holiday until you have received your final confirmed travel times when your final travel documents are issued. We are not responsible for the effect of any schedule change on your pre or post travel arrangements. We strongly recommend that you do not purchase non-flexible or non-refundable tickets to avoid cancellation and penalty charges.
If you have chosen to book your own flights, then you will need to wait until we confirm to you that the holiday departure has met the minimum numbers required to run (if applicable to your chosen holiday). Once the holiday is guaranteed to run, you will be informed and you can then make your arrangements.
If transfers are included in your holiday, please ensure that any potential flights will be met by our standard transfers (speak to one of our Travel Experts for advice) otherwise private transfer supplements may be applicable. Once your flights are booked, please send us a copy of your detailed flight itinerary.
Please be aware that most tickets are non-refundable in the case of cancellation. For this reason, we strongly advise you check the rules of the ticket and check the limitations of your cancellation insurance before booking. We cannot be held liable, in the unlikely eventuality that we should be forced to cancel or amend your trip, for losses incurred relating to any flight booking you have made.
Our full booking terms and conditions can be found on our website: https://www.activitiesabroad.com/booking-conditions
Please note: our payment and cancellation terms will be unique to each booking – they will be confirmed with you at the time of quotation. The terms listed above are noted as a guide only
Please note that the following cancellation terms supersede in part those mentioned in Section 7 of our general booking terms and conditions.
- Up to balance due date (this is normally 16 weeks prior to departure however some holidays differ. If this applies to your holiday you will be advised at the time of booking) - Loss of deposit (including the full cost of flights or other services where paid at the time of booking)
- Between balance due date and 92 days prior to departure – 50%
- 91 to 24 days prior to departure – 75%
- 23 or less days – 100%
We just had a fantastic time. So well organised and the village literally had everything you needed. It was also clear that everyone who worked there loved it and that enthusiasm really rubbed off. We loved the husky ride!
We totally enjoyed it. The guides were fabulous and Graham was amazing when we booked and his advice turned out spot on. The guide did an amazing job of making santa a secret safari and a total suprise for the kids... Truly magical. And the huskys I was petrified about before hand but it was just amazing... Words can't describe! An absolutely fantastic holiday that we won't forget. We will…

The most friendly and helpful people, nothing was too much trouble. Perfect holiday with the grandchildren.
Everything was amazing … 10 out of 10 ...
The huskey driving was great fun, guides were knowledgeable and it was something I didn't think I would do.
Santa visit - obviously seeing the kids faces, but it was exactly as we wanted, quiet and magical in the woods, not some huge commercial factory feel to it. Perfect. Overall excellent. I've been in travel myself for 14 years, 12 at Trailfinders and 2 at Knighton Reeve - a luxury Africa specialist. I have very high standards when it comes to customer service and make no bones about that. Right from…

the outset Dawn was really "on it" - helpful, quick, knowledgeable and happy to help arrange a call with a colleague to answer some specific questions about the kids activities and suitability. Exactly the service I look for and have always tried to engender in my sales teams. I looked around a bit initially as had never booked Lapland in my career so knew nothing much about it other than I didn't wan't a big commercial resort. You guys (and Dawn in particular of course) were on the money from the outset, so as soon as we got the quote and the info it was a no brainer for us. Immediately stopped talking to anyone else and just finalised the plans with you as soon as we had our leave agreed our side. Keep up the good work. It was a great trip.
As a frequent traveller to Walt Disney World, I didn't think any holiday could compare - but this trip far exceeded all our expectations and was our best holiday ever! The Gulu Gulu resort is fantastic and we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The Wildlife Park was beautiful and we spent a lot of time there - again feeling like we had the whole place to ourselves. We loved every single…

Please pass on my thanks to everyone I spoke with throughout the process – we felt we received excellent recommendations and advice and we had a perfect holiday. Customer service in the UK has slipped recently but you are a company who ‘bucked the trend’ and excelled. My only complaint is that this was meant to me a once in a lifetime holiday and now my wife is looking to book again…!
Just to say thank you for organising an amazing trip for my family. We had a great time at Gulo Gulo holiday village. The accommodation was superb very warm spacious and comfortable. We loved the sauna too. The wildlife safari team at the village were very accommodating and we had superb experiences all round. Father Christmas trip to his secret cabin was amazing. We all loved the Snowmobile…

trip to the Reindeer Farm. The Husky dog trip was epic too. We enjoyed the Finn horse safari across a frozen lake in the dark very atmospheric. We also had a wild night safari into the Zoo which was great we had a guide take us around for two hours looking for nighttime activity. In terms of the overall experience, we had a brilliant time. Brilliant would not hesitate to recommend.

The activities were just perfect. Our kids loved them. Staff at a Holiday Village Gulo Gulo were fab. So friendly especially the French guy who’s name I can’t remember, went over and above to help me find the phone I'd lost in the snow!
We loved the father Christmas experience. It was amazing having 1 on 1 time with the big guy!!!!
A brilliant trip!! I don't know how it would have been without such deep snow, because that was the foundation for most of our activities and it made the Whole experience so pleasurable. The staff were welcoming, cheerful, caring and very helpful. We will be back, possibly for Christmas with other family members.
Gulo Gulo is fantastic and we plan to return again soon. The staff were great, especially when our daughter was ill and needed to see a doctor.
We had a wonderful holiday, thank you.
We had an amazing time at Ranua. The accommodation was amazing, very clean and modern in a brilliant location. The huskie ride and the visit to Santa were the highlights. This was really magical and captivated not only the children but us parents as well! We believe!
I would totally recommend to anyone - A magical experience in a magical place.
We had an incredible holiday. Gulo Gulo is an amazing place and we loved everything. The hotel itself was brilliant. Facilities good. We loved everything. Dogs especially and also seeing how well looked after they were. Was all brilliant. For Theo the ability to play on toboggans all the time was just brilliant.
Accommodation great, staff and trips great. No issues at all on this holiday and it was very magical. The reindeer farm and husky rides. Very authentic trips, staff could not have been more helpful and a very lovely and different experience. Overall a great holiday and I would use you again. Thanks
We had a really wonderful time and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this trip. Our 3 and a half year old loved it. We did the horse-drawn Northern Lights (and saw them!), husky sledding and reindeer sleigh ride... there was an igloo behind our house, the snow was brilliantly deep and safe for my daughter (not slippy) and the sauna warmed us all up. Having the warm clothing provided was great.
Travel and transfer went smoothly, albeit a little slow to get to the place. Food choice and quality were surprisingly excellent. Guides were great. Cold weather clothing was good. Driving the husky sled was great. The kids loved the dogs.
We loved it all but the trip to the Ice Village was very special.
We possibly enjoyed the huskies the most but its difficult beacuse we enjoyed it all
This was an amazing experience with excellent help and standards at all times The people at Gulo Gulo couldn't have been more helpful in trying to make the holiday as enjoyable as possible. They were all particularly helpful to my daughter who had received a bad injury to her ankle the day before we left the UK and was on crutches. This is also true of the staff at Norwegian airways who arranged…

We had a thoroughly enjoyable family holiday. The standard of accommodation and facilities was really good and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We would rate this holiday village very highly.
Just returned from a wonderful three-night break at Gulo Gulo. Activities Abroad staff were great at guiding us on an itinerary to suit the six members of our party (age range from 5 - 74) and Gulo Gulo were wonderful with their organisation out there. The 5k husky sleigh ride was a highlight and everyone enjoyed the 30minute snowmobile trip. The quality of the cold weather…

The accommodation at Gulo Gulo and activities provided were all excellent. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic guides really made the trip worthwhile and gave us a real perspective of life in the area. really enjoyable time there. The journey via snowmobile was also great fun for all the family. I think the ʺpick and Mixʺ approach is a great way of people being able to choose the activities they want to do and within the limits of their budget. It was a winter wonderland. The whole experience was enjoyable - in particular the husky ride and the zoo was also very impressive.
I don't think I've ever been on such a fantastic trip where I really can find no fault at all, everything ran smoothly and I felt very prepared prior to travel. skiing were amazing and 'awesome fun' to quote my children. The trip to see Father Christmas was just magical; it was very personal and my children were just in awe of meeting the man himself. This was the most magical family holiday we have had. It surpassed all our expectations. The Finnish people were warm and friendly, the landscape was breathtaking. The activities were just phenomenal and so very different to anything we had tried before. The accommodation was superb very modern but cosy with log burner and sauna which was very welcome after many snow fights; also to find a couple of sledges in the porch for us to borrow during our stay was fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised by the food which I thought offered a good choice for a small destination. I did not struggle to find something we all liked to eat, I particularly liked the fact that the children could choose the adult dishes from the menu and so sample some Finnish cuisine. Everything was provided for us and nothing was too much trouble. We have not stopped talking about it since we got back and I have already recommended this destination and your company several times.

The food was basic but very good; it was great to try local dishes. It was more difficult to get my children to try them, though! Snowmobile safari was great fun. safari was lovely and relaxing as well as the reindeer safari. The husky safari was amazing, I was very nervous at first as they were so strong and eager to get going but soon got the hang of it.
