A Southern Turkish gem
Sitting on the bright blue Turkish Riviera or ‘Turquoise Coast’ is the town of Kaş, where some of the clearest parts of the Mediterranean meet the shore. Once mainly a fishing village, it has grown into one of Turkey’s loveliest holiday spots: a quieter alternative to the likes of İzmir and Antalya with just as much sunshine and culture. Its waters have a range of fantastic diving locations with vibrant reefs and wrecks bursting with life, while the mainland slopes and their attractive hiking trails lead you towards stunning panoramas.
All in all, it offers a perfect combination of environments for a family activity holiday, which is precisely why we picked it!
We’ve had families reaching the end of our Kaş holiday swiftly booking to stay on a week longer, and it’s easy to see why. Parents and children just fall in love with the town’s white buildings and easily-navigated old streets, full of colourful flowers and tasty aromas.
It’s impossible to miss looking at the sea, given that the town practically inclines towards it. You also get a real sense of the area’s culture, whether through the inviting shops and their local produce, or the historical beauty of sites like the theatre of Ancient Lycia. No noisy nightclubs to worry about here: Kaş is open and cosmopolitan, welcoming people of all ages.
Harbour and hillside entertainment
The activities which make up our Kaş itinerary deliver a good mix of harbour and hillside entertainment, enabling you and the children to get familiar with the unmissable coast and the sights to be found inland.
An undisputed hit with all families has to be the lazy boat ride along the shore, which then takes you around nearby islands and inlets – cameras at the ready! Stopping along the way, get acquainted with the Mediterranean: jump in for a bit of swimming and snorkelling. In the spirit of laziness, you might just prefer to stay put and soak up sun before tucking into a scrumptious on board lunch!

As part of the activities on land, you get to go tubing on a river, spinning your way downstream! This takes place in the Saklıkent Gorge, where you spend a morning hiking and close the day with a soothing mud bath (or lively mud fight, if you so wish!). You can also enjoy the landscape with a day of mountain biking, which shoots you through forests and meadows; added to that, there’s a picnic hike into the mountains, with many natural delights along the way.
An active culture mix
Turkey has long been famous for its blend of Eastern and Western culture: something you and your family very quickly appreciate in Kaş, where ancient and modern come together. Heading off to an activity, you’ll be sure to stumble across pieces of the country’s history; returning from the beach as the sun goes down, you might hear the mesmerising ‘ezan’, or call to prayer. The lack of crowds and hectic rushing around allow everyone to get close to daily life in this Turkish town. Just imagine: you could be taking a relaxing stroll through its pleasant streets after an energetic day out before tucking into the best of regional food at a Mediterranean-facing restaurant!

When you turn back and see the views of the coast, you’ll be blown right away and have the perfect chance for family portrait. Sea kayaking is high on our list two as you paddle over the ruins of Kekova, but in our minds it is the guides who make this holiday truly special. As is the case on all of our holidays, our local friends have consistently received high praise from our guests. They really do make your experience all the more memorable.
