Although we love the Mediterranean islands of Sicily, Gozo and Croatia, there is one destination that we are particularly excited about – Madeira! Former television presenter and journalist Eleanor Findlater was looking for a holiday to suit her family's love of nature and adventure. After contacting Activities Abroad we knew there was only one place we could send her and the family - The Azores! We caught up with Eleanor to find out what she and her family thought about these incredible islands and the adventures that they enjoyed:
Sitting 563 miles west off the coast of mainland Ecuador, the Galápagos Islands are no doubt one of the most famous archipelagos in the world. The very name conjures up images of exploration, adventure and incredible wildlife, found nowhere else in the world. From Charles Darwin, to his famous ship the HMS Beagle, and an amazing array of unique animals, that helped the famous scientist come up with his theory of evolution, there is something very special about these incredible islands that puts them on many a bucket list.
Now although the amazing wildlife is certainly reason enough to make a trip to these wonderful islands, they are not the only reason you should be planning your next family holiday here. 5 reasons why you should consider going on a multi-gen holiday this summer!
Tuesday, 05 June 2018With our time becoming increasingly more valuable, as more and more things seem to eat away at our time, it is perhaps unsurprising that more and more families are choosing to use holidays as a way to meet up and spend time together as families.
In 2018 it has become more and more common to find grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, parents and grandchildren all enjoying a well-deserved family holiday together. These multi-generational or ‘3G’ holidays have lots of benefits too!
Montenegro HAS to be your next family activity holiday destination!
Friday, 01 June 2018We approached Kotor along the snaking coastal road that hugs the contours of the bay on a warm early evening in September. Below were the beautiful lights of Kotor twinkling in the distance, inviting us into its beautiful streets. My excitement grew as the lights kept dipping in and out of view and we wound and twisted along the curves of the road until finally, we arrived ready to begin our Montenegrin adventure!
If you’re looking for the dream family getaway this summer, look no further than the Azores. São Miguel has everything you need for the perfect holiday; here are just a few things you can experience during your stay.

We have some great news for you if you and your family have the same passion for protecting the planet and sustainability as we do here at Activities Abroad. What news is that you may ask? Well, one of our favourite destinations for a family holiday, the island of Gozo has been named the best sustainable destination in the Mediterranean!
On the 7th March this year at ITB Berlin, the world’s largest Travel Trade Show, jurors representing 12 international organisations voted for a variety of parts of the world seen as being the most sustainable and Gozo came out on top in the Mediterranean, winning this new and prestigious award!
From the moment I landed in Essaouira and stepped off the plane into the warming sun of Morocco, I knew this was going to be a fantastic trip.
A short transfer away, we arrived at Rebali Riads, our home for the next two nights; and what a home it was. The peaceful, luscious gardens are filled with colourful flowers, which drape from the riads and down to the refreshing swimming pool below… a place I spent much of my time in!
I started my Moroccan journey in Essaouira, which means "little picture" in the Arabic language, and it certainly lives up to its name! With high sea walls and charming alleyways, it is a delight to explore.
Tips for Choosing the Right Activity Holiday for your Family
Wednesday, 29 November 2017Active family holidays are a fantastic way to get some quality time with kids – including hard-to-please teens! - while enjoying a favourite pastime or discovering a new hobby, whether it’s cross-country skiing, a husky safari, cycling, surfing or all manner of other outdoor pursuits.
Kayaking on the Zrmanja river was a real highlight for me when I visited Croatia earlier this year.
I love being outdoors and experiencing new activities, so when I heard we would be river kayaking- I couldn't control my excitement! After getting equipped with our gear, we took a short walk from the activity centre down towards the river, where our wonderful guide Sanja gave us a full safety briefing and a quick 'how-to' lesson.
4 family holidays that will make your kids feel like they’re on Blue Planet II!
Monday, 27 November 2017Sadly one of Malta and Gozo’s most cherished natural wonders, the Azure Window, collapsed early yesterday morning due to overpowering weather conditions. After giving so many travellers such joy for so many years, it is sad to see it lost to Mother Nature.
Nevertheless, this delightful part of the world offers so many other great experiences for all to enjoy!
As parents ourselves, we can understand that safety when travelling is at the forefront of everyone’s minds and, in an increasingly turbulent world, it is understandable that travellers are eagerly seeking out destinations where issues such as political unrest are less prevalent.
